never ceases to amaze me when meeting paintings is how there is no before or after. The image lives its own life, even in works with a clear figuration or narrative. In that way, the image is a mystery, a riddle. The Swedish painter Ola Billgren called the image just that, a riddle, saying “Everything is image, and when it all comes around, the image is just a riddle. You can move around it, but never really grasp it.”1 The riddle: an enigma, an intractable problem. Still, painting seems to hold some kind of magic. How else could one describe the way a flat surface can possess so many bodily sensations and emotions? The Italian architect and art theorist Leon Battista Alberti wrote about the “divine power” of painting, stating that “a painting lets the absent be present.”2 To catch a glimpse of life, and experience the presence of a deceased, through colour alone, is in fact magical. Going back to Billgren, I consider some of my images to be riddles. They often contain both a deep melancholy and a laconic humour. By choice, some of my paintings are “solely” stories. However, a riddle can act as a story, since at times stories have a tendency to be incomplete, vague, unclear. In the choice between image as story and image as enigma, an interesting contradiction takes place. If I am lucky, the painting decides for itself. I work with this paradox in the exhibition space, jumping between puzzling, peculiar images, and images with a clearer composition or narrative. By painting, drawing, and carving, I try to understand both what it is to be a human being and the surroundings made, or affected, by human hands. Den ena har precis tagit sista andetaget, den andra är överkörd, har tappat formen. Nästa hjul som rullar över den gör den platt som ett pappersark. Se, en vallmo! Eller, egentligen är det tre. Två har slagit ut. Den tredje är fortfarande bara en spänd knopp, ovetandes om vilken värld den snart slår ut i, och när. Paul Celan skrev att också vallmon blöder. Han skrev även om maskrosor, men det är inte orsaken för motivvalet. Jag började en vår, för jag blir som väckt av en kraftig emotionell respons, varje vår när dom plötsligt infinner sig, överallt där det är hårt. Det är ett reflexartat samlande: fotografier, teckningar och minnesbilder, jag målar dom när lusten finns, inte bara under våren. Lycklig är dåren som skådar en solgul maskrosboll under den gråaste av novemberdagar! Den första stilen skulle kunna föra tankarna till den abstrakta expressionismens color field painting, men är enbart imitation av rena material istället för ett gestaltande av olika känslotillstånd: den består av stora fält som mimerar sten i olika färger och grupperingar. På insidan av min ateljédörr har jag utskrivna bilder av dessa väggar. Det började med att jag målade en stenmur men slutade upp med en stenmur omringad av platta färgfält eller kanske kan man kalla det paneler, i olika jordpigment. Toskansk bränd sienna (alltså det som brukar kallas pompejanskt rött), guldocker, caput mortuum. Dukarna blir som legobitar, målningen skulle kunna fortsätta byggas på i en oändlighet, om lusten fanns. Genom ett hål i väggen syns en klarblå himmel, märkligt, då jag befann mig på bottenplan. För att bilden skulle tala sanning, om en bild ens kan det (konstnären Ola Billgren pratade om bilden som en gåta, man kan röra sig runt den, men gripa den kan man inte), skulle huset behövt byggas på en höjd. Vill Du komma till himlen?, står det på ett flygblad som pingstkyrkans medlemmar delar ut utanför Åhléns city på Drottninggatan. Frågeställningen illustrerades med en nästan likadan blå himmel som den jag målat. Alla moln är sammanlänkade, likt syskon. Samma devis gäller även för målningar. Vill Du komma till himlen? Jag tror det, är mitt svar. Varje vår slår en maskros ut på Kolargatan, mitt i bergväggen. Vägvisaren pekar dit det blåser men i målningen står alltid vinden stilla. En kvinna ligger på marken, hon bönar och ber. Två änglar: en hänger i marionettrådar, en är gjord i papp. En tredje ängel står på mitt skrivbord, inte än avbildad i en målning, hon är så liten att hon kan sitta på mitt lillfingers topp. Iklädd en grön klänning spelar hon den stummaste av melodier på sin fiol dygnet runt. En sällsam, ljudlös ton. Jag målar vidare. It is a beautiful white cube at Hudiksvallsgatan 8. It used to be a gallery before, now he uses it as a small exhibition space and a shared studio. I wanted to show a new series of work, made with this specific room in mind. Images that continue through the room, with the same motif, slightly different, with a similar colour palette and stretchers in the same sizes. On all four walls the paintings follow you, like stills from a film. For some years, I have been thinking a lot about my appearance and how I look while sleeping. Before me and my ex-partner broke up, I terrorized him with questions about how I looked asleep. The questions popped up since I used to draw him sleeping: it was great fun drawing his nose against the pillow. I never asked him to draw me “back”, since he does not draw. How would I know how I look while sleeping without making somebody take a picture? An ugly image of me sleeping with a double chin would tell me nothing. Therefore, I only asked questions. Now I sleep alone, and of course this means that I do not have anyone to tell me how I look. Meaning I was forced to use photographs. After realizing that, the way to solve this problem I created myself was to fake sleep, while taking photos of myself. Faking sleep on my bed, with a 10 second timer. After that, I painted this series of self-portraits, one at a time. I call them Sovsimuleringar, Sleep simulations in English. Maybe the act of faking sleep, or to play dead like a frightened guineapig, was more interesting as a motif anyway. I will continue to make them until I want to paint myself with my eyes open again. I drömmen står jag, men det kan också vara någon annan, inför en icke-mur på en ickeplats. I kikarens sikte syns flertalet färgade stenar, och fogen mellan stenarna. En antydan till himmel och jord finns också. I mitten brer muren ut sig som ett bälte. Färglagret närmast betraktaren är kikarens mörka ”kanter”, som siktet utgör. &nbsp; &nbsp;Den så kallade rotlösheten resulterar i ett tomrum av uteblivna möten och berättelser. Det mesta har jag googlat.
